This year, Castlepollard Community College has successfully introduced a new Transition Year program into the school. With close connection to the community, the program aims to develop self-aware and socially responsible students who are proactive members of the college.
The mission of Transition Year is, "To promote the personal, social, educational and vocational development of pupils and to prepare them for their role as autonomous, participative, and responsible members of society" (Transition Year Guidelines, 1994, Department of Education)
This program will allow students to explore their own interests whilst experiencing Leaving Certificate subjects without the pressure of exams. The year also provides a range of unique earning experiences outside the classroom which aim to develop the students' interpersonal and social skills. These activities include, project work, work experience, group work, community initiatives, outdoor pursuits and cultural trips.
