Visit from Manchán McGann
16th May 2016
Local journalist, travel writer and politician, Manchán McGann paid a visit to the College today to talk to students about his experiences as a travel writer and environmentalist. The talk was organised by the Irish Department and a lot of the talk was given in Irish.
Manchán began the talk with a personal insight into the 1916 Rising as he spoke about the involvement of his Great-Grandfather, The O’Rahilly who had a significant role in the Rising. Along with this, Manchán then presented on his various travels around the world in Africa and most recently in South America. His travels have been the subject of documentaries for TG4 and TV3 and of two books which he presented to the school.
Perhaps the most interesting part of Manchán’s talk was his discussion about his home in Westmeath, not far from the College which is built of hay and soil. The talk was of great interest to the pupils and enjoyed by all.
