TY Play: The Breakfast Club
29th January 2019
It has been five years since Castlepollard Community made the courageous leap into the world of drama and theatre with our fabulous production of Voulez Vous. Who would have thought that we could have packed the Mullingar Arts Centre in the years to follow with colourful and joyous productions of Oklahoma and Joseph and His Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat? Who would have thought that we could gain national awards for our thought-provoking production of John B. Keane’s, Big Maggie and the wonderfully constructed original play, Times like these?
In addition to the outstanding productions mentioned above, the Drama Department along with a little help from a few of the other departments in the college put together a thoroughly enjoyable performance of The Breakfast Club. This production, including every member of the backstage staff was made up entirely of the Transition Year group in the college. They put two shows together on Thursday and Friday last to large crowds in the MCVG Theatre.
Credit must go to the strong performances of the lead characters and an incredible supporting cast who took to the stage of the first time. Many of the main actors had benefited from being part of a range of musicals in the college during their Junior Cycle and this showed in their confident approaches to what were challenging roles.
A huge congratulations must go to Director, Ms Leonard and her producers Mr Gilsenan and Ms Judge, who put a lot of time and effort into rehearsals in the months leading up to the show.
