Match Reports: Senior Camogie

It has been a tough start to the year for the camogie team who have put in two excellent performances but have fallen just short in both games. A single point was the small margin in one of the games.

Captain, Kerry Cassidy reports:

Edenderry v Castlepollard CC

It was a cold morning as the Castlepollard Camogie team made their way to Edenderry’s pitch. Throw in was at 11:00 and the battle for victory began. While the first half was a defensive one with little to no scores from either teams, at half time there was only a point between them, Edenderry taking the lead. However, the Pollard girls weren’t going to stop fighting and after a half time talk from their coaches, the Pollard side went out onto the pitch and an excellent goal by Caoimhe McCormack was scored within seconds, putting Castlepollard in the lead. Towards the middle to end of the second half another fantastic goal was scored by Sian McLaverty. After great frees taken by Elisha Gavigan the Pollard camogie team were at a 2-6 score at full time. There was excellent clearances by Caitlin Devine and Jenna Fullam, and half backs Laoise Devine and Kaleigh Fagan. In the end Pollard lost by a one point defeat but nevertheless Castlepollard CC will definitely be ready for their next match.


Castlepollard v St Finian's

The battle between the Finian's and Castlepollard camogie teams commenced at 11:15 on Friday morning. Within the first ten minutes two goals by Lauren Fitzsimons and Sian McLaverty put the Pollard team in the lead. Despite the best efforts of the Castlepollard defenders, the drive of the Finians forwards couldn’t be stopped, allowing them to put the sliotar over the bar. Finians were in the lead.However, after a motivational talk from coaches Ms.Brady and Kate at half time, the Pollard team preformed the best they ever had against the Finian team. The determination of the Pollard side couldn’t be matched and two more goals were scored by Caitlin Dobson. An amazing effort was made by all the team throughout the course of the match, with excellent pressure from Elisha Gavigan and Caoimhe McCormack against Megan Dowdall in midfield. Despite the defeat Castlepollard CC had taken, it hasn’t dampened the team’s enthusiasm to get back out onto the pitch for their next match.
