To round off an exciting year in the classroom, first year students were treated to a trip to Athlone Castle and the Luan Gallery to see everything they have covered in real life.
The trip, organised by the History Department gave the students an insight into life in the Stone Age, Early Christian Ireland and Medieval Ireland. It also provided a snapshot of modern History which the students will look at next year.
Athlone Castle gave the students a chance to wear replica costumes from the time, hold a sword and cannonball and test their strength on a Norman longbow.
After reaching the top of the castle, it was time to cross the road to the Luan Gallery to have a look at some contemporary Irish Art. In keeping with the historical theme of the day, students viewed a range of interpretations of the 1916 Rising which stimulated discussion and insight into the event.
