Big Maggie - 29th & 30th of November
24th November 2016
Opening night is fast approaching and our cast are fully immersed in the words of John B. Keane as we speak. Our students have been putting in long hours over the last two weeks and this weekend will see the final preparations for the show which opens on Tuesday night at 8pm. There is also a matinee show for schools at 1pm on Tuesday followed by another performance and Wednesday night, again at 8pm.
Here's a brief synopsis of the play:
John B. Keane’s blast against hypocrisy from 1969 still has a relentless force. In its portrayal of a newly widowed woman who views her husband's death as a liberation, all pieties, social conventions and sentimentality are punctured. As Maggie seizes her opportunity to take absolute control of the family farm and business, she denies her four children their share, and drives each one in turn away. Big Maggie is a play with adult themes, such as greed, hypocrisy, land, religion and sexuality.
-Director, Ms Leonard
