Awards Evening 2016
20th May 2016
It is the most anticipated night of the year. In celebration of the students' hard work, Awards Evening is a cherished and important night for parents, pupils and staff at the college. At Castlepollard Community College we feel it is important to give achievement both in and outside the classroom the appreciation it deserves. This was certainly evident last night in the celebratory atmosphere enhanced with amazing dramatic and musical performances.
In his address to parents, staff and students, gathered in our main hall, CE of LWETB, Dr Christy Duffy, referenced the importance of outcome in terms of education. The outcome of all the hard work and dedication shown by everyone in Castlepollard Community College was certainly there for all to see last night.
Students were awarded in a range of areas, from sporting achievement to achievement on the stage and of course academic achievement. Pictures and details of award winners can be seen in our Gallery with a full list of award winners, however, special mention must go to Niamh McCarthy who won the Student of the Year Award for 2016.
In terms of sporting achievement, our U16 hurlers were honoured on the night and presented with their medals by our hurling ambassadors(members of the Westmeath team) having clinched the North Leinster title earlier in the year.
Fifth year students, Anne Nicole Gallegos and Rebecca McKenna were also presented with awards in honour of their outstanding Junior Cert results earlier in the year. The presentations were accompanied with fantastic musical performances and special thanks must go to Ms Leonard and her school choir and Ms Kilbride and her instrumental group.
In all, the night provided a special platform for students and parents to celebrate their achievements at Castlepollard Community College this year.
Thank you again to our Guest speaker, Dr Christy Duffy, our Hurling ambassadors from the Westmeath team and our Parents' Association who helped present awards on the night.
