All Ireland Pitch and Putt Champion

25th September 2018

Third year student, Jack Buckley had a busy summer on the pitch and putt courses of Ireland as he went in search of All-Ireland glory. Jack's search came to a happy end recently as he clinched the U16 All-Ireland title in Kilbeggan.

Playing locally in his home club of Collinstown, Jack honed his skills on the course from the age of 9. Jack says he practices about three or four times a week in his local course. This hard work and dedication has clearly paid off! Over the summer Jack was placed in a group of five other competitors and eventually qualified out of the group facing into a series of seven games on his path to the recent final. Jack only lost one of these games but notes his toughest victory came against Evan Carey from Castletown.

Jack faced a player from Douglas, Co. Cork in the final over a two round series. All the hard work paid off for Jack on the day as he finished the matchplay tie on the 12th hole of the second round. At that point, Jack was 7 under for his round. Impeccable play under such pressure. Well done Jack from all at Castlepollard Community College!
